What to do in Split and where to eat

Discover the best things to do in Split.

I just returned from my trip to Split, and I genuinely believe it's one of the most remarkable destinations in the world. The city's enchanting blend of Roman history and stunning natural landscapes, combined with its bustling port, pristine beaches, and delectable cuisine, has left an indelible impression on me. I'm absolutely smitten with this city, and I can't wait to share my favorite places in Split with you.

WHAT TO SEE

Touch the big toe!

You mustn't miss the gigantic statue of Ivan Meštrovic of Grgur Ninski, a medieval Croatian bishop, just outside the Golden Gate of the palace. It is said that touching his big toe brings good luck and that you will go back to Split. Let’s hope is true!

Indulge in the Best Markets in Split

At the Green Market (Pazar), located just outside the eastern Silver Gate. For the bustling fish market (ribarnica), start early to see the stone slabs filled with shiny tuna, squid, and small anchovies.

Split Cathedral

The Split Cathedral was originally constructed as Diocletian's mausoleum but was later repurposed for religious functions over the centuries.

After exploring the cathedral, I recommend strolling through the charming streets of Split's Old Town, where you'll find a myriad of quaint cafes, local shops, and picturesque squares.
